Celebrating at the Art Institute

When The Arts Club turned 100 last month, the candles were officially blown out during a Friday night black tie gala for members at the Art Institute. However it was a celebration that would stretch over the weekend, with the public invited inside The Arts Club on the following day.
Club doors were thrown open on Saturday to everyone who wished to join the celebration, with the usually private upstairs salon and dining room accessible to all, including the sacrosanct Mies van der Rohe staircase. It was an afternoon of music and art, during which artists from Chicago and around the world engaged in discussions and performances, and the Grammy award-winning sextet Eighth Blackbird performed a specially commissioned piece, Composition as Explanation, by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang.
