Who better than nimble Chicago comedian T.J. Shanoff, Second City host, director, writer and musical director, to introduce Martin Short, creator of some of Saturday Night Live’s cleverest characters, to the 800 guests attending the recent Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation’s annual fall luncheon at the Hilton Chicago?
Short movingly shared the impact of cancer on his life, with the death of his mother from breast cancer in 1968 and then his late wife of thirty-six years, Nancy, to ovarian cancer in 2010.
Chaired by Michelle Williams and Justyna Della Valle, the luncheon raised more than $800,000 to support the advancement of the treatment, education and early detection of breast cancer.
The PURSE-SUE THE CURE™ purse auction featuring more than 100 new, collectable and kids’ handbags, as well as men’s featured items from preeminent retailers, upscale boutiques and private collections kicked off the morning, followed by lunch in the Grand Ballroom with decadent desserts of dulce de leche mousse and almond chocolate cake.
Marquee Sponsor of the event was @Properties.
Since its beginnings in1985, LSCRF has raised over $34 million toward advancing the understanding of breast cancer. Research initiatives focus on novel treatments, education and early detection of breast cancer. LSCRF also funds fellowships in breast surgery, breast imaging, pathology and hematology/oncology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to ensure that more patients have access to professionals with advanced training in the treatment of breast cancer.
