Chicago non-profits have long known that celebrating outside during our magnificent summers is a surefire way to maximize funding of their very important missions. None could be more spectacularly successful than the 65th Annual Dinner on the Bluff and Pro Am Golf Championship for the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital. Hosted by the Hospital’s Founders’ Board and presented by Wintrust, the events raised over 2.23 M for the Lurie Children’s Heart Center. Over 560 guests gathered at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff to enjoy cocktails and dinner, taking in the Lake Michigan vista.

Dr. David Winlaw welcomes guests
The evening featured introductions by Dr. David Winlaw, the Head of Cardiovascular-Thoracic Surgery at Lurie Children’s Hospital, and Nick Foligno, Captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. Guests were joined by two young Heart Center patients who formed a remarkable friendship as both children awaited heart transplants. It was this deep friendship, along with the unwavering support of the Lurie Children’s Heart Center’s interdisciplinary team, that provided the strength and comfort they needed most. Now, just four months post-surgery, Tyler and Marshall were able to join guests at Dinner on the Bluff and share their story, inspiring the crowd to donate nearly $900,000 under the tent that evening!

The magical evening, where guests stayed cool sipping Azalea Margaritas in the much-needed lake breeze, preceded the Pro Am Golf Championship at Lake Forest’s Onwentsia Club where 55 golfer foursomes, each paired with a pro, competed to be crowned the 65rd Annual Pro Am’s newest winners. The June Seaman Trophy went to Andy Kucich, Don Maag, Jack Bakker-Arkema, Quinn Shanley joined by pro Megan Kiley. Megan is a former Florida Southern College golfer who earned First Team All-American honors in her senior year and later earned her Class A PGA status. This marks the first time in the 65-year-history that a team led by a female professional golfer has won the trophy.

Overseeing both events were co-chairs Annie Barlow and Abby Baine Dunn. Stuart Lansing and Jeff Yehle, co-chairs of the Men’s Golf Committee, and its members led the way for a successful Pro Am Golf Tournament and the Dinner on the Bluff was cleverly executed by dinner co-chairs Jen Cunningham and Marie Tillman Shenton.
Together the events took the Founders Board over the top of their $4M commitment to Lurie Children’s Heart Center. This funding will help young congenital heart disease patients and their families and provide the ongoing care that impacts every area of their lives.
