Summer Trips to Maine and Washington State

By Nick Wilder

My father was a school teacher at Brooks School in Massachusetts.  We spent summers on a small island off the Maine coast. I still enjoy visiting the island every summer and catching up with old friends. This summer Keven and I also attended the wedding of a nephew on Orcas Island 100 miles north of Seattle and only a couple of miles from Blakley Island which was recently featured in a Classic Chicago article by Libbet Richter. The first stop on our western adventure was Seattle where we enjoyed the sights and smells of Pike Place Market.

Pike Place Market is known for fish throwing.  Here’s a fishmonger getting ready to throw.
