A long time ago a friend borrowed a sweater. She’s the sporty type, a fresh-faced, low-maintenance athlete who played college soccer. Which is why it’s surprising that that this particular knit, an oversized black cashmere beauty adorned with asymmetrical sequin stars, was her choice, although who knows, the group might have pushed it on her.

Fast forward to a lovely encounter with her sweet mother, who shared that this sweater is her Christmas Day staple. She then asked if I’d like it back. I replied that it made me deeply happy to know that it has brought her joy. What an honor to be connected to this special family.

Which is why December is the best time to lean into sparkle and sentimentality. There are more places to go and people to see than at any other time of year. Dazzle them with details. Sparkle all the way.
