Admiring an antique Anatolian Carpet
One of the most exciting events on this year’s calendar was the 15th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ORIENTAL CARPETS, held from June 6-9, at the Marmara Taksin Hotel in Istanbul.
Selecting an antique Caucasian Runner
Truly this is the most academic rug conference in the world – attended every four years by collectors, dealers, and scholars from around the globe who focus on the “Past and Future of Carpet Weaving and Collecting.” ( Some enthusiastic attendees have even gone so far as to describe it as a form of “Rug Olympics.” )
Scenic Istanbul
Throughout the symposium, historical carpets and textiles are examined … as are the influences of contemporary art and design on new production. To be sure, the conference offers an exciting and enlightening balance between antique carpets and today’s newest creations.
Scenic Istanbul
For me personally, there was also the opportunity to acquire a variety of unique Caucasian and Armenian rugs while connecting with dealers and friends from all over the world – some of whom I’ve known for over thirty years.

Visiting the Armenian Patriarchate was inspiring — experiencing my ancestors’ footsteps.
Ottoman Period Silk Embroidered Barber’s Cape
Though beautiful but somewhat congested, Istanbul continues to offer visitors a unique experience as well as amazing and delicious cuisine.
