Resort Report: Timeless

Wheels up, headed to the islands. Perhaps you’re off to the slopes, but with the below zero temperatures, we’re dreaming of sunshine, sea air and classic looks that can be tossed into a valise practically with a traveler’s eyes shut.

Milla Jovovich photographed by Mario Testino for Harper’s Bazaar, December 1995. This would look just as wonderful now or then.

That’s the beauty and brilliance of the resort collections. Year after year, it’s the best time to restock favorites like white shirts, sleek sandals, easy shifts, and breezy blouses.

You’ll find pieces so good that backup buying might be necessary. Plus, the looks are wearable. No outré runway nonsense here. This is the land of lovely, wearable clothes that are ideal for getaways now and lakeside later.

Another Mario Testino shot of Milla Jovovich from the December, 1995 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. This pink silk shantung is everything resort wear should be.

The perfect capsule wardrobe, which should fit into a small suitcase that can be easily maneuvered on small boats and puddle jumpers, evokes a gentler decade

 while feeling totally now.

If the need for inspiration arises, we recommend channeling jet setters at winter resorts of the 1960s. Round Hill, Jamaica and Acapulco, Mexico might not be at the top of your 2018 bucket list, but a look back at how stylish social stars and movie stars used to while away the days should help with your packing list.
