Morocco

By Nick Wilder

Our trip to Morocco in March was the third time my wife, Keven, and I have visited the Kingdom.  We cruised up the coast exploring cities like Casablanca, Rabat and Tangier.  Six years ago we spent a week in Fes, the country’s cultural capital.  This year we were based in Marrakesh. We stayed at the Amanjena Hotel which is about three miles from the city center.  The downside to our location was the need to get a driver every time we wanted to visit a restaurant or attraction.  On the plus side, our hotel was quiet and elegant, a nice change from the chaos of the souk.  Our favorite restaurant was La Maison Arabe where Winston Churchill was a regular.  One day we drove to Essaouira on the Atlantic coast.  It was known as a hippie hangout in the 1960s but we liked the vibrant shopping districts and the dramatic shoreline.  Another day we drove up into the Atlas Mountains for a personalized dinner in a Berber home and tour of the nearby Jewish cemetery.
I hope the following photos give a sense of life in this beautiful land.
