Year after year the Gold Coast Art Fair continues to be a marvelous venue for exposing even very young childen to art.
The Gold Coast Art Fair was founded by a Chicago journalist, the late Arnie Matanky. After almost a decade of writing news for other people, Arnie began his own publication, The Near North News, in 1956 to cover the area of Chicago dearest to his heart—the Near North Side. Two years later, to attract business to the same area, he co-founded the Gold Coast Art Fair, which—now in Grant Park—draws thousands of visitors every summer.
Arnie Matanky would be delighted to see the Art Fair as it is today.
Details—the look of the tents and such—may change by the year, but Arnie would love it.
Often the same Northsiders travel down to Grant Park every year.
