Glessner House

Glessner House Annual Gala: Celebrating Architect George W. Maher

The annual Glessner House gala will celebrate Prairie School architect George W. Maher in recognition of the 160th anniversary of his birth in 2024. The event will take place in the recently restored Kenilworth Assembly Hall, designed by Maher in 1907. The honorary chair is Barry Sears, whose grandfather, Joseph Sears, founded Kenilworth in 1889. Architectural historian and preservationist Susan Benjamin will be the recipient of the John and Frances Glessner Award. The event will include food and beverage, a short program, the opportunity to visit the “Century Homes” exhibit in the Kenilworth Historical Society across the street, and a rare opportunity to step inside the 1880s log cabin playhouse (now in the park next door to the Assembly Hall) built by Joseph Sears for his children when the family lived across the street from the Glessners on Prairie Avenue.

It will be the party of the century, taking place at City Hall Events in Chicago’s lively West Loop neighborhood. On Sunday, June 16, we’ll honor the vibrant spirit of our city with a gift to all Chicagoans—the return of the Joffrey for All free performance. Situated in Millennium Park, experience a series of fan favorites from all three pillars of our organization, featuring Company Artists, Academy, and Community Engagement students. Truly embodying Joffrey for All, we are ecstatic to revive this meaningful performance for a second time.

The Breakthrough Ball
