Late August is prime time for wardrobe ennui. Linen feels limp, frocks suddenly appear flimsy and sandals have spent too much time in the sand. Yet summer days and nights feel ever more precious, as the evenings grow shorter and a slight chill in the air occasionally accompanies morning coffee.
There is a remedy. It’s time once again to slip on the blue jeans that have been tucked away since Memorial Day and made it ok for old-school rule followers to switch to white denim.
Claudia Schiffer shows how to transition.
Denim, always right, especially in times of transition, is the blank slate of any look. Beachy sweaters, crisp white shirts, a black scoop neck tee — every one of our favorite tops looks great with jeans. This makes packing so simple when a last-minute lake house invitation arrives. A few well-chosen accessories will dial up the style.

For lunches and meetings, a little runway inspiration might come in handy. Chanel’s Fall 2016 collection features a welcome return to the favorite pairing of denim and tweed. True to form, these looks are not the usual jeans-and-a-jacket pairings, but interesting combinations of tweed and denim together in boots, skirts and, yes, jackets.

Loaded up with strands of pearls and with denim bags in hand, it is an influential collection that will make your favorite Chanel jacket look fresh and amazing this season. Love the black-and-white tweed, but the candy pink is especially fun and flattering to ladies of all ages.
King Karl reworks the classic combination of denim and tweed.
That’s one of the real upsides to jeans, the democracy involved in a five-pocket pant in indigo-dyed heavy cotton twill. Everyone wears jeans in a personal way. Right now, so many styles are available: flares, cropped, straight, demi-boot, skinny, even embroidered. The wardrobe staple and the guilty pleasure are equally relevant. So replace wardrobe boredom with wardrobe exhilaration. Find favorites, wear them well andenjoy the last weeks of summer and early fall in style.
