The Great World City as a Resort
Chicago is a city for many seasons. Its weather, brisk and exciting in the fall and dramatic in winter, slowly creeps through a sluggish and uncertain spring into an almost incomparable high summer. As one moves north from the river along Michigan Avenue in August, the city’s great architecture reflects a welcome light that anticipates the sandy lakefront a few blocks beyond. The city’s beaches are as casual and relaxing as those in any resort, but around them is a man-made environment celebrated throughout the world. And, where else can one step off a sand beach and cross a street into the urbanity of the Cape Cod Room and a Chanel Boutique?
