The Village Chicago recently hosted its 2024 annual fundraiser, “Light Up the Night” at the Chicago History Museum. The event drew a lively crowd of 220 who enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces and making new connections during the cocktail reception. This year’s gathering brought an exciting twist: fun, engaging games with prizes that helped boost fundraising efforts.

Auctioneer Keith Jones energized the room with his fast-paced presentation, showcasing irresistible travel packages to Europe, the Caribbean, and Iceland, sparking enthusiastic bidding.

During the paddle raise, Executive Director Niki Fox delivered an inspiring speech that moved the audience. “I believe so completely in what the Village does” she shared. “What makes the Village special is that we a community of people who choose to share our skills, talents, and friendships as we age. After nine years with The Village, I have seen and deeply felt the impact this community has on so many lives.”

Board Chair David Baker also reflected on the evening’s success: “Events like this remind us of the power of community. The generosity we saw tonight allows The Village to continue its essential work, creating meaningful connections and providing invaluable support to older adults.”

Event co-chair Judith Gethner echoed this sentiment, expressing her pride in supporting the cause: “It’s an honor to help support The Village. This is a unique community of people dedicated to each other’s wellbeing, supported by a professional staff, and offering vital connections and resources for navigating life after 50. There’s truly nothing else like it.”

The evening culminated in a breathtaking performance by three talented young artists from Lyric Opera’s Ryan Opera Center. Co-chair Ira Kohlman remarked, “The performance was a huge hit with the audience—several attendees told me they wished it had lasted longer!”

Now in its 15th year, The Village Chicago continues to be a leading resource for older adults and their families, offering both support during the transitions of aging and opportunities to enjoy the good things in life together.
