There’s a theory that every season needs a little black dress and a fun dress. In this case, fun usually manifests as a lively print, one that steals a shopper’s heart, leading to an immediate “add to cart” situation.

Summer is a time to experiment, let loose, and even go a little wild with repeating patterns with charming cheetahs, birds, or another magnificent creature.  These vibrant prints, often lovingly block-printed by artisans, add a touch of exotic flair and playful energy to summer wardrobes. The use of bold, eye-catching patterns allows for a statement look that can be both chic and casual. Intricate prints bring a sense of adventure and personality to everyday attire.

The repeating patterns of animals are easy to mix and match with other pieces in your wardrobe and are certainly a good excuse to pile on enameled animal-motif bangles. When picked up abroad, these treasures are wearable reminders of life-changing experiences. No need to pack a passport to find wonderful, worldly dresses, skirts, and kaftans, though.

Brands are doing great work with hand-drawn prints that offer unique blends of cultural and bohemian vibes. A new-ish favorite is Printfresh, a size inclusive brand founded in 2016 by textile designer and fashion entrepreneur Amy Voloshin and her husband Leo. The original hand-painted patterns are designed in Philadelphia and brought to life by ethically conscious makers in Jaipur, India.

These prints can evoke a sense of wanderlust and free-spiritedness and humble cotton provides an effortless way to embrace the summer heat. Traditional dyeing techniques create subtle tones that are easy to wear.

For a little more drama, look to the glamorous designers who also take inspiration from nature’s beings, but dial up the drama. A perfect example is Versace’s new graphic print  Barocco Sea, which continues the house’s rich heritage of prints inspired by natural wonders of the sea. Reach for a little something from this special collection for boat days, strolling, and shopping.
