Anchors Aweigh launched a whole new annual summer fundraiser for the Woman’s Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital charting a course for Summer Soirees to come. The 300 guests who gathered on the wide terrace at the Saddle & Cycle Club, danced to the breezy yacht rock band Anchor’s Away and found it a perfect sail into summer.

Co-chairs included a new generation of Woman’s Board members, including Emily Krall, Emily Sturgess Annie Hudson and Bridget Tully Vrabel. “What a way to kick off the summer! Great night, good friends, and a fine cross-section of Toto and The Doobie Brothers. And to top it off, more than $230,000 raised towards our $4.6 million pledge supporting women’s reproductive health. Who could ask for more,” Sarah Schrup told us afterwards.

From its very first fundraiser—a musicale at the home of Bertha and Potter Palmer in 1900—the 127-year-old Woman’s Board has matched novel fundraising events with its determination to raise funds for initiatives at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Board whose financial commitments began with free bed care for patients in 1897, has offered the first cutting edge care for women with HIV-AIDs and more recently for COVID patients, just weeks after the pandemic began. It has funded the building of numerous buildings on the Hospital’s campus including Ambulatory Care, the Emergency Pavilion and the Prentice Women’s Hospital floor for cancer patients as well as research grants, clinical trials, and in early times, to wire the whole hospital, unique ways to recognize Compassionate Care among Hospital employees and much more.
